The Survivors
Ever since ZC-X was released, the world above ceased to belong to the living.
The uninfected didn’t fight for the cities. They didn’t fortify neighborhoods or mount counterattacks.
They ran. They vanished into the cracks beneath society. Forgotten military installations. Abandoned research bunkers. Ruined monasteries shrouded in ivy and silence. Places the infected couldn’t—or wouldn’t—reach.
Not all of them were lucky.
But the ones who survived… became shadows of their former selves.Among them is a group that’s made its home in a place long swallowed by rust and overgrowth: A derelict train station on the outskirts of a dead city. The station, once a symbol of motion and connection, now sits buried in silence, its timetables frozen on a day that never ended. The survivors call it The Broken Line.Ticket booths turned into sleeping quarters, patched with tarp and scrap metal. Old vending machines now hold scavenged medical supplies and rationed food. The subway tunnels serve as emergency escape routes, escape drills practiced like prayers. Watchers perch in the hollowed-out remains of a commuter train suspended on the upper platform, rifles steady between twisted steel bars. A glowing wall of graffiti marks the only color: a painted mural of names. Lost ones. Loved ones. The Before. This group isn’t made of soldiers. They’re teachers, mechanics, bartenders, hackers, people who once hated mornings and now pray for another one. Each of them has seen someone torn from them—by the infected, by betrayal, by hopelessness.
